Just like some people love to rewatch their favourite TV show or listen to their favourite song on repeat, games have the potential to draw us in again and again. The goal of this study is to form a clearer understanding of why some players prefer to replay narrative-based video games.

To participate in this study, you must be at least 16 years of age and have experience playing video games for fun. There are no other criteria for being included in this study.

This online study requires your participation at two different time points, separated by a one-week delay. During session one, you will answer questions about yourself, your experience with video games, and your general orientation to certain experiences. Then, you will play a short game that we have chosen for you. After, you will answer some questions about your experiences playing the game. About one week later, we will send you a notification (and reminders, if necessary) that you can log in again to the FMG research lab website. During session two, we will just ask you to play the game again for a short time, and answer some more questions about your experiences. Both parts of this study take place entirely online.

In total, the study requires approximately 1.5 hours to complete (Session 1: 1 hour, Session 2: 30 minutes). You can be compensated in the form of 1.5 Communication Science research credits (session 1: 1 RC, session 2: .5 RC) for your participation in this study.

For questions, please contact the researcher, Dr. Koji Yoshimura, k.b.yoshimura@uva.nl.

Psychophysical influences on the interference pattern? Here we attempt to replicate enticing reported findings. We are only looking for very motivated participants, preferably experienced meditators. If you are interested in this experiment (duration ~2  hours, reimbursement 2 Psychology credits or 20 euros), please contact us at y.pinto@uva.nl.

In this task you will either do a cognitively effortful task (2-back task), follow a guided meditation, or you will aim to directly affect an interference pattern. In the latter case you will receive direct feedback about your performance. The task consists of 6 blocks, with breaks in between the blocks. In total the task takes approximately 2 hours. In this experiment you will be in the same room as an active laser, so you will have to wear protective eye-glasses. The laser has a low intensity and is shielded, so these glasses are employed to ensure that there are no risks.

Have you experienced a negative interpersonal event that still affects and disturbs you? Then we invite you to participate in our study examining the effectiveness and mechanisms of a technique for processing negative memories: Imagery Rescripting. During Imagery Rescripting you will be asked to relive a negative memory and imagine a different outcome.

The study consists of three lab sessions: Two assessment sessions consisting of an interview and questionnaires (2-3 days before and a week after the intervention), and one session of Imagery Rescripting, guided by a trained student.

We are looking for English- or Dutch-speaking participants who have experienced a negative interpersonal event (e.g., bullying, embarrassing situation, unfair treatment), who are at least 18 years old, and have not received psychotherapy in the last three months or are currently on a waiting list for treatment.

Are you interested in participating? Please fill out the screener and we will reach out to schedule the three sessions if you are eligible. You will be reimbursed for completing the screener with 0.5 Research Credits. If you complete the study, you will receive an additional 3 Research Credits or €30 for your participation.

Fysiologisch onderzoek, Eye-tracker, Computertaakjes (lab onderzoek), Vragenlijsten (lab onderzoek) | 3.00 Psychology Research Credit
How does physical activity affect your performance? Contribute to science and stay in shape at the same time.

Have you ever noticed that your focus sharpens after exercising? In this study, we are exploring how your body responds to physical challenges by increasing your arousal levels through continuous exercise on a stationary bike and through challenging cognitive tasks. We want to see how these factors influence your performance and how this is reflected in physiological markers in real time.

During the session, you will perform an auditory task whist you are cycling on a hometrainer - with a very light / light intensity. We will continuously measure your pupil size, heart rate, and respiratory effort — key indicators of how your body adjusts to mental and physical demands. This experiment will help us understand more about how people perform under pressure, with potential insights into how we can optimize focus and performance.

The study lasts around 2.75 hours (session 1: 1.5 hours, session 2: 1.25 hours), and for your participation, you’ll receive 3.0 psychology research credits.

Inclusion criteria:
- You are between 18 and 30 years old
- You are English speaking (native or non-native speakers allowed)

Exclusion criteria:
- You have health conditions that would impede you from performing very light / light intensity exercise for an extended period of time (50 minutes)
- You have uncorrected visual impairments (glasses and soft lenses are allowed, but hard lenses are not)
- You have hearing deficits

Please note, you will be cycling on a hometrainer for about 50 minutes in total, so please be sure you are comfortable with this exercise duration before signing up.

If anything is unclear, feel free to ask the researcher directly, or contact them through email: s.d.vanmil@uva.nl. The researcher will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

A neuroscience study for roommates only — Earn €30\€20 for a 2-hour session
Are you an empathetic person? Do you ever feel like you and your roommate are more in sync than you realize?
We at the Social Brain Lab (NIN) have decided to explore how people physically and emotionally respond to each other in shared experiences. We're especially interested in how roommates connect beyond the rent into the emotional realm.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE:
• Same biological sex-identifying pairs, aged 18–35
  • Roommates for at least six months
  • No clinical conditions (e.g., epilepsy, heart problems, or strong sensitivity to stimulation)

WHAT'S INVOLVED:
A 2-hour session in our lab, together with your roommate:
In the first block of the experiment, one of you will experience a short series of mild, safe sensory stimulations that are fully calibrated to your personal threshold. You’ll have full control over the intensity, which will be adjusted to feel uncomfortable but never too painful. The other will observe and rate your reactions while we record natural physiological responses in both of you, such as:
   - Heart rate
   - Skin conductance
   - Respiration
   - Pupil size (with wireless glasses)
   - Facial muscle activity

In the second block, you will switch the role. You’ll also complete a brief interpersonal distance task to explore whether shared experiences can subtly shift how close you feel to your roommate. Finally, you’ll fill out a few short questionnaires about emotions, empathy, and your interpersonal connection.

WHAT YOU GET:
• €30\€20 per person
• A unique opportunity to contribute to neuroscience research
• Insight into how humans connect on a physiological and emotional level

HOW TO JOIN
• Make sure to register for the same time slot as your roommate — participation requires both of you!
